Desert Survivors
Before my wife and I had our baby girl, I used to have this really great thing called “free time.” One of the things I used to do during my aforementioned “free time” was lead trips for Desert Survivors. Desert Survivors is dedicated to preserving and exploring desert wilderness. The group offers dozens of backpacking trips every year into some of the most spectacular, remote, untrammeled wilderness you will ever visit and, at $10 per trip, it remains one of the great bargains in guided backpacking. The Siskiyou Project
Did you know that the Siskiyou Wild Rivers area has a higher concentration of Wild & Scenic Rivers than any other part of the country including Alaska? This area is also one of the seven most biologically diverse hotspots in the world. Siskiyou Project is a grassroots network dedicated to permanently protecting this spectacular and remote corner of the West Coast. Visit www.siskiyou.org

Friends of the Inyo
On the eastern edge of California, there exists a vast and wild landscape where bighorn sheep roam across alpine ridges, golden trout brighten tumbling streams and the Milky Way outshines city lights. Founded in 1986, Friends of the Inyo is a Bishop, CA-based non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the preservation, exploration and stewardship of the region's public lands, made possible through member support, grant funding and federal agency partnerships. Friends of the Inyo cares for the Inyo Wilderness by connecting people to the wonders of the Eastern Sierra's public lands. learn more at www.friendsoftheinyo.org
Ventana Wilderness Alliance
For nearly a decade the Ventana Wilderness Alliance has led the grassroots effort to protect the wilderness qualities of the Ventana Region, along the Big Sur Coast. VWA volunteers also contribute thousands of hours each year maintaining the public trails in the Ventana back country. I support their conservation work and endorse the Ventana Trails Forever campaign. — Robert Redford, Actor, Director, Conservationist

Oregon Wild
"To those devoid of imagination, a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part." -Aldo Leopold. Oregon Wild works to make sure blank places on the map stay blank. They do it by building grassroots support and convincing elected officials to preserve ancient forests, clean rivers and pristine backcountry areas. For more than 30 years, Oregon Wild has worked to keep Oregon a special place to live, work and play. Find out more at www.oregonwild.org. Photo by Steve Kingsford Smith.
California Wilderness Coalition
The wild lands of California encompass some of the most beautiful and diverse places on earth. California’s wild places offer a retreat from the frenetic pace of everyday life, and are also critically important to the ecological health of our region. Wilderness provides homes to threatened wildlife, supplies clean drinking water to California’s growing communities, and contributes to clean air. The California Wilderness Coalition is the only organization dedicated to protecting California’s wild places and native biodiversity on a statewide level. CWC has more than 5,000 members and more than 200 member organizations and business sponsors. Photo by Bob Wick. http://www.calwild.org/
